NOTE: Federal Law (CSLA) requires ALL handguns, pistols and revolvers to leave the store with a lock. Effective 7/1/2021, the State of Colorado now requires all firearms, including long guns to leave the store with a lock. If you do not have a lock, we have inexpensive locks starting at $2.99.
Any magazines over legal capacity in CO will be removed with no credit given. Magazine capacity in CO is limited to 15 Rounds for Rifle and Pistol magazines, and 8 Rounds for Shotgun magazines (or 28” Magazine Tube). Magazines over legal limits will only be released to authorized individuals or entities that meet legal exemptions. This applies to all firearms, including private and mailed-in transfers and purchased firearms.
TRANSFERS
If you purchase a firearm, lower receiver, or other item online that must be shipped to a registered FFL, we can provide this service for you.
Transfer fees (effective August 1, 2026):
Mail-in transfers: $80 for the first firearm; $60 for each additional firearm, plus the Colorado CBI background check fee.
LEO transfers: $60 per firearm, plus the Colorado CBI background check fee.
Outgoing transfers: $80 per firearm + shipping and insurance. Restricted states (e.g. CA, NY): $115 per firearm.
Please allow up to 24 hours (not including Sunday and Monday, when we are closed) for us to contact you after your transfer arrives.
Incoming transfers that are considerably over-packed and require extra time to unbox and unwrap will be charged an additional $20 fee, due to the time required to safely unpack your firearm. This is not common and is charged only when necessary.
Background checks: The Colorado CBI background check fee is $15.50. This fee is non-refundable, whether you pass or not.
PRIVATE SALES / TRANSFERS
To acquire a firearm via private sale or trade in Colorado, all buyers must pass a background check.
Private party transfers: $60 per firearm, plus the Colorado CBI background check fee. No appointment is required. Private party transfers are handled as an as-available service and are accepted up to 1 hour before closing (until 5 PM Tuesday–Friday and 4 PM Saturday).
Firearms must be brought into the store by the seller/current owner. Any ammunition left in a firearm, magazine, or case will become the immediate property of Ark Tactical without exception.
CLASS 3 / NFA ITEMS & TRANSFERS
As a Class 3 FFL dealer, we sell and transfer NFA items such as suppressors, short-barreled shotguns and rifles, and other related items. We have a Silencer Shop kiosk on-site to facilitate Form 4 paperwork. Customers can complete fingerprints and photo via the kiosk and associated app.
NFA transfer fees:
NFA – Suppressor: $120 + $30 Silencer Shop upload fee
NFA – SBR / SBS / AOW: $170 + $30 Silencer Shop upload fee
If you purchase an NFA item through our Silencer Shop link, no transfer fees are charged.
FIREARMS STORAGE
Non-NFA firearms: Storage fees begin 5 business days after Ark Tactical has notified you that action on your part is required (firearm received, background check approved, etc.).
NFA items: There are no storage fees while your ATF application is pending. Fees apply only if you miss either free window below:
• After we receive the item(s): 10 business days free to come in and start the NFA process.
• After the ATF’s final status update (approved, disapproved, rejected, etc.): 10 business days free to pick up or otherwise resolve the item.
Background check denial (all firearms): If you are denied and choose to appeal, you receive 30 days of free storage from the denial date. Paid storage begins after that 30-day period.
Storage rates (per serial number):
• Not prearranged and paid in advance: $3 per day
• Prearranged and paid in advance: $15 per 7 days / $50 per 30 days
• Pre-paid storage fees are non-refundable
Notification means any attempted contact by phone call or email. Ark Tactical cannot send text messages and is not responsible if your voicemail box is full or your email address is invalid or not on file.
If you need longer-term storage, please contact the store directly to make arrangements.
CANCELLATIONS & RESTOCKING
If you terminate a transaction after payment and paperwork have started, a restocking fee of 25% applies (minimum $50 per transaction). This applies to firearms and NFA items.
Special-order items: No refunds.
Background check fees are non-refundable in all cases.
GUNSMITHING & ARMORING
We offer many different gunsmithing and armoring services. We can do many things in-house; if we can’t do it here, we can often send out your firearm for the necessary work. Check with us about what you need done and we will help any way we can—or provide a reference for the best place to get your project completed.
